When it comes to fire safety in extreme environments, there is no room for compromise. We are proud to operate one of the country’s most advanced test facilities for passive fire protection. This state-of-the-art site plays a crucial role in developing and testing our materials designed to withstand the most intense fire conditions, ensuring safety in a variety of key industries and beyond.
At the heart of our fire testing capabilities is a fire chamber constructed with aerated concrete blocks. This specialized structure enables rigorous testing under controlled conditions, ensuring that materials and products meet the industry’s highest standards.
We offer two primary types of fire testing:
Jet Fire Testing: Simulating high-intensity jet fires with extreme heat flux.
High Heat Flux (HHF) Testing: Pushing materials even further by exposing them to elevated temperatures that exceed standard requirements.
“Fire safety is not something to take lightly,” says Rodrigo Diaz, Technology Manager for Passive Fire Protection. “The products we test must perform reliably under the most demanding conditions, which is why we built a test chamber that mirrors the strictest industry standards.”
Fire testing is a highly technical and meticulous process, often requiring days of preparation before a single test can be conducted. From calibrating equipment to ensuring precise placement of test objects, every detail must be perfect. Once a test begins, it can last anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours, depending on the specific requirements.
“At peak power, our test facility uses up to 1,100 kilograms of propane per hour,” explains Diaz. “This allows us to create the extreme conditions necessary for validating fire safety performance.”
Pål Fredriksen, Team Leader for Maintenance, emphasizes the significance of trust in fire protection: “Our customers rely on us to ensure that the solutions we test will work when it truly matters. Fire safety is about protecting lives.”
As fire safety requirements continue to evolve, we are ensuring that we are at the forefront of adapting to new industry challenges. One of the emerging concerns is hydrogen fires, which burn at even higher temperatures than traditional hydrocarbon fires. With hydrogen playing a key role in the transition to sustainable energy, there is increasing demand for fire protection solutions that can withstand these unique conditions.
“We are already seeing greater demand for solutions that can handle hydrogen fires,” says Diaz. “Fire safety is not static—it is an ongoing evolution. Our ability to anticipate and adapt to these changes ensures that we are prepared for the future.”
Our commitment to fire safety extends beyond meeting current industry standards; the company continually pushes the boundaries of what’s possible. By investing in cutting-edge testing methods and collaborating with other industry leaders, we ensure that our fire protection solutions are ready for the most challenging environments.
For industries where fire safety is a matter of life and death, having access to world-class testing facilities is invaluable. As technology advances and new fire risks emerge, we remain dedicated to pioneering solutions that protect people, infrastructure, and the environment.
